Why is this topic important
While bias affects everyone, it doesn't have to get in the way leading inclusively. Diverse teams respond to leaders who pause and hold back judgement, and consciously provide safe, respectful and fair leadership. There are five key biases that can deeply affect our decision-making and the outcomes for people who depend on our leadership to grow and develop their careers. When bias is left undiscovered and unmanaged, it can shut people down, take away from their initiative and courage and push them towards conformity and fear. Recognising and interrupting bias can boost team inclusion and belonging, and energise and inspire a team to bring their real selves to work.
Your time commitment
This is a 60 mins micro-learning session. Attend at this time based on location:10:00 am-11:00 am ACDT (Adelaide Time).
How you will benefit from attending
This learning session will offer practical and proven ways to recognise and manage key biases and boost your leadership.
> Understand five key biases that affect leadership
While several cognitive biases exist, we will discuss five that leaders can focus on and learn to manage. These biases significantly alter our perception of other people and their competence, and push us to take decisions that can be unfair, not based on merit and tend to favour a few. Through learning to recognise and interrupt bias, leaders can take better decisions.
> Learn ways to interrupt leadership biases at work
Interrupting bias is much easier than trying to get rid of it all together. Our beliefs can be hardwired, and leaders can use smart ways to get around them in a short time. You will learn to catch bias before it turns into a bad decision, and use strategies that can make it easier to be fair and objective. These practical ideas provide leaders the tools to be more inclusive at work.
> Discover ideas to jumpstart inclusion and respect
The goal of managing biases is to move towards more inclusion, respect and fairness. Without these foundational attitudes, diverse teams can feel disengaged. You will learn how to accelerate a shift towards greater inclusion and respect for differences at work. This can help increase team courage, authenticity and creativity, and produce better outcomes.
How your team will benefit
Teams respond to leaders who can stay respectful, accept diversity and differences and work together with the intent to understand and not judge. Most people are drawn to leaders who are inclusive, fair and respectful of others, and understand and promote their team's unique talents and skills. A team that feels like they are being heard and seen for who they are, and belong at their workplace, can outperform those who don't.
