Event description

Description

If you are a HR Manager, Health & Safety Coordinator, Supervisor and/or CEO of an organisation and you are uncertain how to manage the impact of non work related medical conditions in the workplace, this free half day event will be relevant and helpful to you.

If an employer believes their employee’s state of health (mental or physical) may be affecting their work performance, productivity and or safety, then a risk management approach is necessary. This half day event looks at taking such an approach from both a medical and legal perspective.

Concerns relating to an employee’s state of health may be reflected in many different ways. For example:

  • There may be physical or cognitive issues as a result of ageing,
  • An employee has a high absenteeism record,
  • There are performance related issues, or
  • An employee’s behaviour and attitude (abusive, agitated, depressed etc) is out of character and impacting safety and or performance.

This session will explore:

  • How to measure fitness for work, and what tests can be applied?
  • What action can an employer take?
  • What rights does an employee have in such circumstances?

Dr Mark Floyd, Occupational Physician will provide a medical perspective on how an independent medical assessment can measure fitness for work and complement an organisation’s HR framework.

Mr Chris Sargent, Consultant Solicitor will provide an overview of various workplace related legislation and will discuss what actions an employer can take from a legal perspective.

Following this Dr Floyd and Chris Sargent will be joined by Rosanna Conti from mlcoa for a panel discussion. Rosanna has over 25 years’ experience in the provision of rehabilitation, claims and injury management services both in compensation and non-compensation settings.

During the panel discussion you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Alternatively you can submit questions or case scenarios you would like the panel to explore, to Lisa Horsfall via lisa.horsfall@mlcoa.com.au.

To help you apply the information from this session when you return to your business, free practical resources and tools will be made available to all attendees to take away and adopt where applicable and useful.

Morning tea will be provided and we welcome you to join us for lunch following this event, from 1.00pm. This will be a great opportunity to meet other employers who are also facing similar challenges.
