Description

This workshop discusses and reviews the key factors that contribute to aggressive and challenging behaviours as well as providing a framework for de-escalation, assertive closure and self-care after an event.


Learning outcomes:

  • The biological, social, environmental, and psychological drivers that contribute to challenging behaviours
  • Understand the physiology of anger and aggression and what precipitating factors can cause an aggressive reaction
  • Become confident in effectively managing a range of challenging behaviours
  • Be proficient in de-escalation techniques such as DR LASSO along with assertive closure and what to avoid
  • Common client boundary breaches and response strategies
  • Understand best practice documentation techniques and self-care support channels
  • Appropriate strategies for responding and managing in the short and long-term


Who is this training suitable for?

Developed specifically for frontline works in complex settings, this workshop will provide you with strategies and procedures that you can begin implementing straight away.


Training facilitator:

Melanie Else is a Registered Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and holds a double degree in Psychology and Business (with honours , a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, Strengths Profile Accreditation and a Diploma in Positive Psychology and Wellbeing. She a currently works as the Senior Consultant at Melanie Else Coaching, Psychology and consulting.

Melanie has over 14 years of clinical /forensic experience within Corrections Victoria. She nurtures a keen interest in the wellbeing of staff, specifically enhancing the mental health of those within the front line and direct service area.

What are my transport/ parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking: There is local parking available in Turner St, Sackville St and Easey St; alternative parking is available off Lulie St (on the eastern side of the Railway line off Johnston St), adjacent to Victoria Park stadium. Please be aware of clearway zones during certain times of the day.

Public transport: Caraniche is a five minute walk from Victoria Park station (South Morang, Hurtbridge and Greensborough lines). Our office is also accessible from bus routes on Hoddle St (towards Richmond or Clifton Hill) and Johnston St (towards City/ Lonsdale St or Kew).


Cancellation Policy?

  • 14 days notice or more: no penalty
  • 8 – 13 days notice: 25% of total training fee
  • 3 – 7 days notice: 50% of total training fee
  • 48 hours notice or less: 100% of total training fee
