Professional Development Series Workshop: Presented by the Southern Sydney Connection

The Southern Sydney Connection* have combined resources to deliver Part 1 and Part 2 of "Managing a Flexible Workforce" to ensure managers and coordinators have their concerns adressed and their tool kits expanded in order to manage a flexible workforce. 


  • Wednesday 13th September 9.30am - 1.00pm at Redfern Town Hall

Session overview

The way we work is changing. Many service providers recognise the need to build skills to more effectively manage a mobile and flexible workforce. The rollout of the NDIS and the continued implementation of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, and consequential move to consumer directed care means that service providers need to be able to meet change in demand with a responsive and flexible workforce promptly.

Workshop 1: A Flexible Workforce – What to Expect

This first workshop will be an interactive one, focusing on the participants experience, what they are looking forward to as well as their anxieties around managing a mobile team.

What’s covered

  • Explore the emotions as well as the processes that can benefit as well as provide pain points for both managers and employees of a flexible workforce
  • Setting clear goals and KPIs/outputs
  • Guiding and supporting each team member, in a flexible workforce setting, to achieve and exceed their goals
  • Understanding the KPIs/outputs involved
  • How to effectively measure and support our flexible teams and their service delivery

This workshop will also serve as an opportunity to discuss thoughts, issues and concerns that managers have with the changing landscape in order to frame the focus for workshop 2.

Workshop 2: A Flexible Workforce – Setting up the Team

This session will be interactive and feature practical advice that participants can implement immediately. It will address questions like what types of people work best in a flexible environment, how do we find them and how do we manage them?

What’s covered

  • What makes flexible workers different from a full-time, office bound team.
  • Recruitment processes for a flexible workforce
  • Onboarding to ensure the right standard is set early on.

NOTE: While the above is a conceptual plan for Workshop 2, there will be flexibility around content/subject matter based on the topics raised by managers in Workshop 1 to ensure your needs are addressed more specifically.

Who should participate? 

Managers, Senior Staff and Coordinators of Aged Care and Disability Service Providers.

* The Southern Sydney Connection is made up of training and volunteer programs acorss three organisations: STARS (Canterbury City Community Centre), 3Bridges and VAST (The Junction Neighbourhood Centre)
