About the training :

This training will enhance the skills of workers who support clients with clutter or hoarding behaviours with a focus on best practice management techniques that workers will be able to adapt to assist clients in the longer term management of their hoarding problems. The session will give workers a solid understanding about hoarding and how it differentiates from collecting and squalor. Assessment tools and risk management, with a range practical tips to manage hoarding behaviour. The information in this session is based on facilitators experience and the work done by Randy Frost et al at Boston University.

Presented by Tracey Johnston and Gaye Sumsion, Room2Improve. Both Tracey and Gaye are specialist with years of extensive experience working with people affected by hoarding, clutter and squalor.

About the facilitators:

Tracey Johnston RN - Has worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years and in Mental Health for 20 years in Victoria and South Australia. Experienced in a variety of settings including adults, postnatal and aged. Both inpatient units and community settings as an Associate Unit Manager, Community Mental Health Nurse, Team Leader and Community Team Manager. Tracey was involved in initial establishment of a support group for clients in Port Phillip, Stonnington & Glen Eira and has worked alongside Dr Chris Mogan

Gaye Sumsion RN - Trained as a General and Mental health nurse, Gaye has worked in numerous settings and areas of mental health. Gaye co-facilitated the Hoarding support group run by Inner South Community Health Centre and Caulfield Hospital and was an active member of the steering committee on the Hoarding and Squalor Project in 2012 established by the Victorian Government Department of Health, Aged Care Services.
