Description

MHPN and the Maitland and Hunter Valley ACT Interest Group invite you to attend a workshop on using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy to reduce a client’s fear about experiencing anxiety.

How professionals respond to a person’s initial disclosure of anxiety is particularly important. Clients may present with fears that anxiety is abnormal and that the target of treatment should be zero anxiety.

This workshop will explore ways to help clients feel that they can learn to tolerate anxiety in order to pursue valued activities.

Techniques to help clients know when and how to "give up the fight" (fear, negative self-judgements and attempts to control) will be demonstrated and practiced in small groups.

What is Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

ACT is an evidence based psychological intervention that seeks to increase clients psychological flexibility. More information can be found here: https://contextualscience.org/act

The workshop facilitators are local Psychologists and Social Workers who have formal training in ACT and use it in there clinical practice.

The workshop will be an "experiential workshop" targeting professionals involved in mental health practice but unfamiliar with ACT (for example, Social Workers, Psychologists, GPs, Nurses, Allied Health workers). It will be limited to a maximum of 15 participants.

RSVP: Please register and make payment* for this meeting no later than Friday, 13 October 2017.

* Cancellation rules apply – please ensure you register an accurate RSVP and payment as refunds will only apply under certain extenuating circumstances.
