The forum will follow the MAGNT Foundation AGM which will commence at 6pm. Our discussion will highlight the “First peoples: A roadmap for enhancing Indigenous engagement in Museums and Galleries” and we will hear from multi-talented artists Kamahi Djordon King and MAGNT’s Assistant Curator of Art, Clare Armitage.

Kamahi Djordon King
Kamahi Djordon King in a Gurindji man who hails from Katherine in the Northern Territory. A multi-talented artist, Kamahi’s creative practice includes acting, singing and visual art. Kamahi is also well known as his female alter-ego Constantina Bush, who has starred in Malthouse Theatre’s Blak Cabaret. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts from the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts and is currently completing a Masters degree at RMIT. Kamahi currently lives and works in Katherine as the Performing Arts Manager at the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre.

Clare Armitage
Born in Sydney, Clare Armitage has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Art History. For the last 9 years Clare has worked in the Northern Territory, in public and private art galleries between Darwin and Katherine. In 2014 Clare was awarded an Australia Council Curatorial Fellowship at the Godinymayin Yijard Rives Arts & Culture Centre in Katherine where she subsequently worked as the Curator from 2017-2019. In 2017 Clare was named the Inaugural SPARK NT Curator, and her Exhibition, Fecund: Fertile Worlds has been touring the Northern Territory in 2018. Clare has a particular interest in Australian art and inter-cultural curatorial practice, and is currently the Assistant Curator of Art at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
