A special ‘in conversation’ with Senior Curator Katherine Roberts
About this event
Presented by MAG&M Society, this special ‘in conversation’ with Senior Curator Katherine Roberts, will illuminate Billy Bain’s artistic practice and tease out the messages conveyed through his work. How does he view the way masculinity plays out in contemporary Australian culture? How does he explore his Aboriginality through his work?
Billy Bain draws upon his multi-disciplinary art practice to create a unique installation for Manly, drawing together ceramics and painting, and referencing his drawing and printmaking foundations.
In 2020, the artist received a Northern Beaches Council Creative Communities Support grant. MAG&M has since invited Billy Bain to present an exhibition of new work which unpacks ideologies surrounding Australian masculinity, taking agency in his Indigenous identity having growing up on Sydney’s ‘Eurocentric’ Northern Beaches.
This exhibition will also be part of the Gai-mariagal Festival celebrations which aim to raise awareness of First Nations People living in the Northern Sydney region.
Cost: $25 Members, $35 Non-Members (includes refreshments)
