What is Makers Who Inspire?

Makers Who Inspire is an original documentary web series by South Australian filmmaker Henry Thong. Through intimate interviews with inspiring creators, it explores art, inspiration and the creative process, and provides a rare glimpse into the studios, sets and workplaces of the most inspiring artists working today.

In Season 4, Henry focuses exclusively on creators of Asian and migrant heritage to examine their experiences in the creative industries. As a Malaysian-Australian filmmaker, this has been a deeply personal project for Henry and has allowed him to re-connect with his cultural heritage through working with his subjects. Season 4 was assisted by the South Australian government through Carclew.

Makers Who Inspire has been screened and awarded at festivals around the world, including at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, Milan Fashion Week, and Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Past seasons have featured numerous globally-recognized artists, such as fashion designer Paolo Sebastian, New York City Ballet principal dancer and choreographer Lauren Lovette, Time Magazine photographer Ben Baker, Vogue and RUSSH Magazine fashion photographer Max Papendieck, and painters Tsering Hannaford, Robin Eley and Ellie Kammer.

The creation of Makers Who Inspire Season 4 was assisted by the South Australian government through Carclew. Made to Inspire 2019 has been proudly supported by First Drop Wines and Jamface.
