About this Event
The chemistry bridging course is for students who are studying science at Macquarie University in 2021, but did not study chemistry at HSC level, for those needing to gain confidence in chemistry and for those students who want a refresher course in chemistry.
This course is recommended to give you background knowledge to support your studies in:
- CHEM1001 (Foundations of Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences 1)
- CHEM1002 (Foundations of Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences 2)
The course covers the following topics:
- Atoms: elements and chemical change, atomic structure, the periodic table.
- Molecules: bonding, structure and shape, electronegativity.
- Stoichiometry: mole concept, balancing equations, equilibrium.
- Acids and bases: molarity, pH, Brønsted-Lowry model, Lewis acids and bases.
- Organic chemistry: functional groups, naming, reactions.
Where: Macquarie University Campus - 14SCO (Sir Christopher Ondaatje Ave) Mason Theatre
*Please note there are two attendance options. On-campus registration numbers are limited.
When: Monday 8th February to Thursday 11th February 2021
Time: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm each day
Cost: 2021 course fees waived for MQ students
