Annual General Meeting

Mackay Conservation Group's Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 13 November at 7.00pm at the Environment Centre, 156 Wood St, Mackay. As a member you are welcome to attend and vote. We need at least 15 members to attend the AGM for a quorum.

According to MCG's constitution the following have to be reported at the AGM:

  • The receiving of the Management Committee’s report and the statement of income and expenditure, assets and liabilities and mortgages, charges and securities affecting the property of the association for the preceding financial year.
  • The receiving of the President’s report for the preceding year;
  • The receiving of the auditor’s report upon the books and accounts for the preceding year;
  • The election of members of the Management Committee; and
  • The appointment of an auditor

It is also traditional for MCG's coordinator to deliver a report on the year gone by and plans for the future that will be the same this year.

A copy of the nomination form for Management Committee positions can be found by clicking here.

Membership Fee

Members can also set future membership fees at the annual general meeting. There is a proposal to eliminate fees altogether in order encourage greater membership of the group, you can hear about that at the meeting.

Rule Change

Members will also be asked to consider a proposal to modify Rule 2(b) of our constitution which defines the area in which MCG operates so that the constitution reflect modern definitions of our region.

The current wording of Rule 2(b) is:

To promote, engage in and ensure the conservation of the land, atmosphere, water and physical features of the same and from which are formed the surroundings of living and non-living things including human beings (hereinafter called “the environment”) and in particular to promote the conservation of the area surrounding the city of Mackay and north to Proserpine, south to St. Lawrence, west to Clermont and East to the territorial limits of the Commonwealth of Australia including the islands, the ocean and ocean floor and the Great Barrier Reef (hereinafter called “the region”).

 The proposal is to change the bolded words to read

the Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday Region

The Mackay-Isaac-Whitsunday Region is made of the three corresponding local government areas and is increasingly recognised as a region in its own right. Much of our work is carried out in this region, however the constitution (currently or in future) does not prevent us from working outside the region to protect the environment. The previous definition of our region reflected historical conditions that no longer exist.

This change to the constitution would require a ¾ majority of members present at the AGM.

Representative Appointments

Mackay Conservation Group has (or can have) representatives on various committees that we have to confirm at the AGM. These include:

  • Environmental Defenders Office of Northern Queensland (currently vacant)
  • North Queensland Bulk Ports environment committee (currently vacant)
  • Mackay Regional Council Environment Committee (Joan Fitzsimmons & David Bowen)
  • Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership (Peter McCallum)
  • Local Marine Advisory Committee (currently vacant)
  • Queensland Conservation Council (Peter McCallum and one other [currently vacant])
