Family Inclusive and Involved (1 hr)
Hear from Emily, CARE and TCI Practice and Implementation Lead on how family is always important to children. Family are children’s first and most enduring relationships. We know from practice and research that when children know their families are respected, valued and involved they will do better in care and after care. Learn how to promote positive and lasting family relationships.
There will be two breakout rooms to cover Enhancing positive family time and Advocating for restoration from foster care.
Breakout Room 1: Enhancing Positive Family Time
Let's come together and brainstorm ways we as Carers can make family time a positive, communicative experience for everyone involved. What has worked in the past? How can we repair difficult relationships to get the best for our children?
Breakout Room 2: Advocating for Restoration from Foster Care
This presentation will highlight that restoration/reunification to a child’s family as the preferred permanency option wherever possible. It will evidence how Life Without Barriers, CARE model promotes family involvement throughout a child’s time in care, along with there being good evidence to suggest that restoration/reunification outcomes are improved and increased when carers support, even mentor parents, having mutually positive, child focused relationships.
Carers have the wonderful opportunity to not only positively impact the life of a child, but also the life of their parents. To truly care for a child, we need to also care for their parents. If you have a heart to see some of the most vulnerable families in our community strengthened and supported, then this presentation will inspire and encourage you to join with us.
