“NEW MUSIC: WHERE TO START” – A virtuosic and engaging lecture demonstration by Lucy Schaufer about working on new music with composers. 4:30-6pm

“DEATH BY ARIA” - A masterclass with Lucy Schaufer, featuring specially selected emerging stars of the Perth Opera Scene. 6:30-8:30pm

The Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Lucy Schaufer’s appearances have included the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre du Châtelet, Hamburg State Opera, Opéra de Lyon, Opéra du Rhin, New Zealand Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, and English National Opera. In concert she’s performed contemporary and new works with London Sinfonietta, Britten Sinfonia, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, New York Festival of Song, and Ensemble Modern. Her musical theatre appearances include Margaret Johnson in the European premiere of The Light in the Piazza at CURVE, soloist with the John Wilson Orchestra at the BBC Proms - Bernstein: Stage and Screen, ENCORES! Series, New York, and Great Performances: Ira Gershwin at 100 – A Celebration at Carnegie Hall for PBS Television.

Recent performances and recordings include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Cheltenham Music Festival, Aldeburgh Music Festival, and Ravinia Festival, and Modgud in Higgins’s The Monstrous Child (world premiere Royal Opera House), Venables’s 4.48 Psychosis at PROTOTYPE FESTIVAL, New York, Mrs Jones Street Scene (Teatro Royal Madrid/DVD), Susanna in Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles (LA Opera/Best Classical Recording), Ib in Adamo’s Becoming Santa Claus (world premiere Dallas Opera/DVD). Lucy's first solo recording, CARPENTERSVILLE, co-produced with ABC Classics was the Editor’s Choice in Classical Music Magazine. She is Artistic Director of Wild Plum Arts.
