Lorne Thought 2016: Going it Alone
You need a distributor. You need a completion guarantor. You need to change your script. You need a re-write. You need a drink.
Why does the average Australian film take 7 years to make? Is there too heavy a reliance on the distributors and funding agencies? Why are some independent filmmakers heading to LA to make their films? Is there a better way? Lorne Thought thinks there is and that local filmmakers are creating it – right now – and right here. Pushed into a corner by out of date funding and distribution models these filmmakers are fighting back.
Going it alone allows the filmmakers to stay true to their vision whilst maintaining control. Come and hear first-hand examples of filmmakers creating ‘sleeper hits’ through innovative self-distribution and exhibition models – actually returning money to backers through new and exciting recoupment channels.
Film people from across Australia are invited to beautiful Lorne, Victoria to meet and share their ideas, and to hear from current industry leaders in order to equip themselves for the challenges of tomorrow.
Lorne Thought – discuss.
Lorne Film 2016 will confirm panellists in coming weeks.
