Lord Mayor's City Hall Concerts - Organ Concert: Simon Nieminski

About this Event

Simon Niemiński has been the Assistant Director of Music at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney since 2018. Born in London, he studied at the Royal College of Music and at Pembroke College, Cambridge as an Organ Scholar. He was an Organ Scholar of York Minster and held posts successively at both of Edinburgh’s St Mary’s Cathedrals. As Master of the Music at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral Simon directed and accompanied the choir in daily services, concerts, recordings and broadcasts. He was subsequently the Organist at St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral and Director of Music at The Robin Chapel of The Thistle Foundation in Edinburgh.

As a recitalist, Simon has played at venues around the UK and beyond, including at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, St Florian’s Abbey in Austria, The Royal Canadian College of Organists’ national convention in Ontario, and Washington National Cathedral, USA. For the last two years, he has been the featured recitalist in the International Organ Festival in Japan. He has also performed with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and accompanied the BBC Singers.

Simon has recorded a total of eleven solo CDs. Many have helped to revive the music of unjustly neglected composers such as Eugène Reuchsel, Giles Swayne, and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, and have received high accolades.

Doors will open at 11am with concert starting at 12pm.
