DNA and Genealogy – the basics

We are proud to present Ann Swain from the Queensland Family History Society, Inc.

Ann started researching her family’s history in 1975 and is a founding member of the Queensland Family History Society. She is also a very early member of several Scottish and English family history societies and was once rung from England to see if she was in a nursing home because of her very low membership number! Ann taught senior biology for 38 years, after graduating from UQ majoring in Genetics and Botany. She was Secretary, QFHS, 1981-84; President, QFHS, 1986-89 and 2007-10; chaired the organising committee for the 7th Australasian Congress on Genealogy and Family History, Brisbane 1994; was Secretary of Australasian Federation of Family History Organisation 2004 -09; is a Fellow of QFHS; and currently is co-convenor of the QFHS DNA Special Interest Group and its Pre-Separation Group. She has published articles in QFHS, Aberdeen FHS, Central Scotland FHS, East Surrey and Lincolnshire FHS journals; for over a year during 2011-2012 was an expert guest on radio 4BC’s weekly Family History 101 segment; and is a regular and popular guest speaker and Q&A panellist.

Join us for a session on the basics of DNA testing for genetic genealogy. We will take you through the jargon and the three main types of tests used.
