Local Government Officers from within the Sydney Metro region and beyond are invited to attend a Local Government Biodiversity and Planning forum.

Please Note: Registration has reached capacity. Additional registrations can only be accommodated following cancellation by another registered attendee. Please contact Shaun or Kirsten (below) to discuss.

The forum will provide and opporunity to network, share knowledge and collaborate on planning, biodiversity and vegetation management issues arising from the implementation of the Biodiversity Conservation reforms.

Strategic Planning and the Biodiversity Conservation Act
Assessment requirements for planning proposals under the Biodiversity Conservation Act & Clause 34A certification under the Biodiversity Conservation (Savings and Transitional) Regulation.

Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs) – problems & solutions
The Ecosystem Assessment Team will explore areas of a BDAR where application of the Biodiversity Assessment Method may require additional attention from consent authorities.

11.15am – 11.45pm DPIE – Ecosystem Assessment Team

Biodiversity Systems & Data: What’s available & what’s coming.
The Ecosystem Assessment Team will explore the biodiversity systems and data which underpin the Biodiversity Assessment Method and are available to support decision making in relation to threatened species. There will also be an opportunity to consider future systems and processes and provide feedback as a local government stakeholder.

11.45am - 12.30pm DPIE - Ecosystem Programs Team

Accredited Assessors, The Biodiversity Value Map & Biodiversity Offset Scheme triggers/thresholds
The Ecosystems Operations Team will explore these integral components of the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme.

Green and Resilient Places
The Department will highlight how it is creating vibrant, resilient and liveable places that connect people with their communities and environment through various programs.

2.00pm – 2.45pm Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Energy

Protection and management of nationally and internationally important biodiversity

Review of integral components of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, including referral processes, Significant Impact Guidelines and Matters of National Environmental Significance.

2.45pm-3.15pm Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT)

Biodiversity Conservation Trust – Achievements and Local Government Engagement
Overview of conservation achievements and outcomes of recent engagement with local government throughout the Sydney Hunter region.

3.15pm-3.30pm Question and Answer Session

3.30pm - 4.00pm Wrap up and Close.

Who should attend?

The Forum is targeted at local government officers from within the Sydney Metro region, however local government officers from other regions are welcome to attend.

Officers from all fields are welcome, however the Forum will be of most relevance to those in the following fields; environment and planning (development assessment and strategic planning), conservation and natural resource management and land management.

Driving: limited parking is available on site at a cost of $15 for the day. Other parking is available close by to the Parramatta CBD.
