Llanganuco

Morning Breakfast in the hotel and then we depart in a private minivan at around 8am. Our departure takes place from our private tourbus station located in Jiron 28 de Julio 202, next to the San Antonio Church in Huaraz, We will depart in the direction of Llanganuco Lakes, which are located between the mountains of Huascaran and Huandoy, our tour will start in Huaraz at 3100masl. The first view is of the Distrito de Independencia next to Huaraz and 4km beyond is Monterrey where you will find the hot springs of the same name. From here at around 15km we will pass the typical small village of Paltay and continue 3 km more for the artisans village called Tarica. We will cross the Rio Santa on our left passing by several typical villages such as Jangas and Yungar Anta where from here can appreciate the beautiful white mountains of Huandoy, Huascaran, Hualcan, Copa and others. You may make a photo-stop from the various viewing points on the way. We continue on, passing the small local airport of Anta and then cross the Rio Santa again to the right. We will then pass the Marcara district, then continue to Carhuaz located at 2650masl, and as we continue north we will descend. On our descent we continue to the Historical province of Yungay (from Carhuaz it is about30km). This buried city holds such a sad history; a 7 degree earthquake took place in 31 May 1970 at 3:20pm, pieces of the Huascaran mountain’s north peak broke off and caused a huge avalanche of mud and ice and in 6 seconds destroyed Yungay province. However some of the avalanche passed by the valley of Ranrahirca, 20% of the rock, ice and mud engulfed the hill and covered Yungay. This is actually known as the saint field of Yungay, a guided visit will take you around for 45 minutes this visit could be when you come back, after to visit the lakes. 1km north is New Yungay, from here we start to ascend the dusty road up to Llanganuco Lakes. Further on for about one hour we arrive at the base of the Mountain Huascaran and Huandoy, continue until the place called Cebollapampa trail head for Pisco Mountain Climbing and Lake 69, from here we will start walking along the valley visiting the lakes first Orconcocha and bird watching, then continue to Chinacocha Lake, here you can take alternative activities such as sailing with small boats or take horse riding, then continue waking along the nicest trail of Maria Josefa full of vegetation, where at the end the bus will be waiting and take to the countryside typical restaurant for lunch by their own, We come back the same way to Yungay then drive back to Huaraz, arriving at around 6pm to our terminal of Bus Station.
