Living World 2 (of 5) - Home School Science Day

Stage 4 – Years 7/8 - Ages 11 - 14

Date: Wednesday 4th or Thursday 5th March 2020

Time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Ages: Stage 4 – Years 7/8 - Ages 11 to 14

Location: 33 Wycombe Road Terrigal

Cost: $60 per student

Student Only Event: Parents to drop off and pickup. There are no provisions for parents or guardians to stay.Special Needs: If your child has special needs, please contact me via email jacob@makesciencefun.com.au PRIOR to purchasing a ticket and we will discuss what arrangements can be put in place.Age Requirements: This event is strictly for students aged 11 to 14.Tickets: Once a ticket has been purchased, Make Science Fun Pty Ltd does not offer any refunds (unless for some reason the day is cancelled). If your child cannot make the day, please feel free to swap, give or sell your ticket through your own communication networks. Make Science Fun Pty Ltd does not keep a waiting list and does not get involved in ticketing once tickets have been purchased.

What To Bring: Display folder with certificate to get signed (If this is your first lesson, one will be provided). Pencil Case with pens, pencils, ruler etc.All food and drink for themselves for the day (no peanuts, eggs or allergens)Insurance: Make Science Fun Pty Ltd has full public liability insurance to cover Home School Science days.

Child Safety: Make Science Fun Pty Ltd follows strict child safety protocols. These include all Teachers having WWC checks and common sense rules such as adults not being alone with students at any time.Schedule For The Day

The intention for the day will be to complete Living World 2 as per the NSW 7-10 Science Syllabus

LW2 Cells are the basic units of living things and have specialised structures and functionsContent Science Learning Activities

a. identify that living things are made of cellsMicroscopy work studying the cellular nature of living things

b. identify structures within cells, including the nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall and chloroplast, and describe their functionsMaking edible models of plant and animal cells in order to learn about the structure and functions of organelles.

c. outline the role of respiration in providing energy for the activities of cellsChemical respiration demonstration. Respiration and Exercise investigation..

d. identify that new cells are produced by cell divisionStudent Research Project on factors which affect the rate at which yeast reproduces and respires.

e. distinguish between unicellular and multicellular organismsFurther microscopy work.

f. identify that different types of cells make up the tissues, organs and organ systems of multicellular organismsCellular organisation in multicellular organisms and the introduction to the different human organ systems.
