Description

Splash, WaterNSW and the Central West Environment and Waterways Alliance are working together to deliver a workshop on the Living Waterways Framework.

About the Framework

The Living Waterways approach has been developed to support implementation of water sensitive urban design by encouraging and incentivising design solutions that embody all the elements of liveability, resilience, sustainability and productivity.

The approach is site-driven and aligns traditional stormwater principles with place-making benefits. A scoring system encourages innovation and improved design outcomes, while being flexible enough to cater for a variety of development types within the community.

This award winning framework is gaining momentum across the east coast of Australia. The Queensland Government will embed the framework into its state planning policies. A number of local and state government organisations across Queensland and New South Wales are currently using the Framework as a means of designing and delivering multi-functional stormwater projects.

The Benefits

The workshop will provide participants with the skills to:

  • Identify ways to meet community and environmental outcomes through good design

  • Communicate and engage with key stakeholders

  • Identify best practice design options and understand technical specifications

  • Promote collaborative thinking for design solutions and strategies and ownership of Living Waterways outcomes

  • Critique a ‘water related project’ of the participants choice using the Living Waterways Framework

  • Use the ‘water related project’ to work through key grant criteria to develop ‘shelf ready’ projects to take advantage of upcoming grant programs.

Testimonial - Daniel Cunningham, Lead Planner Sydney Water

“The Living Waterways Framework is the best tool for integrating multiple benefits from a waterway project that I have seen. Sydney Water are now applying the framework to our projects to ensure we maximise the benefits not only to waterways but also to the local landscape, community and economy.”

Who should enrol?

This is a workshop with a difference!

The Living Waterways Framework gives local and state government an opportunity to use the Living Waterways Framework to workshop a water related project of their choice. Participants are encouraged to register a team of professionals from across their organisation spanning a number of disciplines. These multi-disciplinary teams will use the Living Waterways Framework to develop a project that is then in a grant-ready format, if further funding is needed.

The following professionals are encouraged to participate in the workshop:

  • Engineers

  • Catchment Managers

  • Urban Planners

  • Designers

  • Landscape Architects

  • Asset Managers

  • Policy Officers

  • Communication Officers

  • Community Groups

Are you an independent consultant?
No problems, register as an individual and we will place you with a council to work within their multi-disciplinary team for the workshop.

Registration

To participate in the workshop agencies will need to:

  • Register a multi-disciplinary team consisting of 5 to 8 individuals

  • Nominate a water related project to apply the Living Waterways Framework and work through key grant criteria

  • Nominate a team leader to liaise with the team and organise a site map for the workshop

  • We encourage the attendance of a council executive, community representative as well as an elected councillor who will provide valuable input into the project design.

Registration includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
