YOU MUST ATTEND

BOTH DAYS OF THIS TRAINING

Sunday JULY 30th AND

Sunday AUGUST 6th

Living Smart Facilitator Training

presented by Shani Graham from Ecoburbia

DAY ONE Facilitating Living Smart

During the this first day, the essential elements that make Living Smart different will be explored – the adult learning principles; goal setting and behavior change elements; and the breadth of the program, including how to develop a curriculum that matches the needs of the group you are working with.

During this day material will be presented, using cooperative learning strategies that can be applied in different situations. After each strategy is used, a quick debrief will allow participants to consider how they might use the strategy in a Living Smart course or their own work. Reference will be made to the good practice modeled the previous day. On line and other resources will be shared.

During the afternoon, participants will spend some time exploring aspects of the Living Smart Facilitator Policy that relate to designing and implementing a course, including the essential evaluation components. Other policy items will be covered in the last day.

The required homework will also be introduced:

-prepare a full Living Smart program outline including a rationale as to why different topics were grouped together, prepare a full plan for the first night, and prepare a full plan for one other session, present a 20 minute activity from one of their planned sessions, on an allocated topic, and prepare a mid week email.

Finally, resources to assist in the homework will be shared – especially focusing on the Living Smart website’s facilitator section.

DAY TWO Sharing Living Smart Ideas and Inspiration

The Policy requirements for delivery

The morning of the second day of the program is a sharing session, with participants presenting their plans and 20 minute activities in groups of three. There is plenty of time for feedback and discussion.

In the afternoon more of the administrative essentials of Living Smart will be discussed, including relevant policies, evaluation requirements, how to apply to run a course, the applicable fees and charges and advertising guidelines.

At the end of the day various strategies will allow participants to reflect on both their confidence to run a course and how likely they are to do so. There is time allocated for discussion about the next steps in introducing Living Smart in various communities, plus plenty of time for questions.

As part of the program participants will received a facilitator’s handbook with plenty of room for notes and ideas, and the Living Smart Participant’s Guide.

Once the course and homework has been presented, participants will also have access to the facilitator’s section of the Living Smart website.
