What's new or on its way
This is an incredibly exciting time in diabetes research. New technology is becoming available more rapidly than in the past. This session a Diabetes NSW & ACT team member will provide an overview of what has recently been released and what will be coming soon. After the update real people living with type 1 will share their experinces using new technology and answer any questions you may have.
Is carb counting enough?
You've already mastered carb counting but what about the other nutrients in your food? Studies have indicated that high-fat/protein meals require more insulin than lower-fat/protein meals with identical carbohydrate content. Our Dietitian will explore this topic in more detail.
Have your say - Panel discussion
Submit your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org before the event and our panel of health professionals and ambassadors will discuss the topics that are important to you.
Diabetes NSW & ACT schools program update
We have been working hard to develop a comprehensive type 1 resource kit for families and schools inculding face to face teacher training, a new website and practical tools. Get an update on how the roll out of this is progressing and how your family can access these resources.
New medications to keep you healthy
We will discuss latest medications for insulin, kidneys, cholesterol and blood pressure.
What's new to treat type 2
New medications for type 2 diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol are coming on to the market all the time. Get an update on what has recently been released for an expert Pharmacist from your local area.
Serving sizes for a healthier you
Portion size places an important role in helping your overall wellbeing. It's not just about carbohydrates. This session will look at all the nutrients that make up our food - carbohydrate, fats and protein. Our dietitian will give you practical meal preparation tips to help you every day.
Motivation to move
Hear inspiring stories from real people living with type 2 diabetes that have completed the Diabetes NSW and ACT group exercise program BEAT IT. Starting to move more has a big impact on your overall health but it can be hard to get started. In this session we will focus on what really works, why it works and how to make the first step towards a healthier you.
Taking the stress out
Good diabetes care requires constant attention to good nutrition, physical activity, medications – and how they each affect blood glucose levels. All of the effort required can sometimes lead to diabetes burnout. A psychologist will provide some practical tips you can apply to your own situation.
Panel session: Looking After You - Annual Cycle of Care
In this exciting interactive session hear from a range of health professionals including a Dentist, Podiatrist, Optometrist, Kidney Nurse and a hearing specialist.
