Event description

Description

After an extremely successful and critically acclaimed sellout season of Spring Awakening in March 2019, RMIT Performing Arts wish to gather a diverse and enthusiastic cast of individuals who are passionate about musical theatre for our next production - Little Shop of Horrors.

We encourage everyone to apply, regardless of previous theatrical experience. We are aiming to create a framework in which people who love musicals can come together to have fun, learn some new skills and create a piece of theatre that they are truly excited about.

Please note that we are committed to inclusive practice, and all auditions will be considered regardless of race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity or ability. Also, as this is an RMIT University production, we have a quota of positions to be filled by RMIT students/alumni.

About Little Shop of Horrors:

A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world.

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

  • All cast will be required to supply their own make-up for the show at their own expense.

  • RMIT Performing Arts reserves the right to request any cast/production member to withdraw from a production at any given time if their attendance, conduct or performance is considered unsatisfactory.

Preparation:

Book yourself into this event on 3 March 2020. This brings you to a form where we can gather your details.

Please also prepare
two 90 second excerpts from two contrasting songs.
Select songs that will demonstrate both vocal prowess and acting ability. These can be songs from a musical, or a pop/rock/RnB song - but preferably in the style of
Little Shop of Horrors (not from the musical itself). Please film yourself singing these songs un-edited to a backing track/accompanied.

In addition to singing, we ask that you select one character from one of the scenes found here - and record yourself performing the scene (only you need to be on screen).

Please also attach a high resolution photo of yourself that we can print to A4 size.

Please send your videos and photo (well named) via wetransfer.com to performing.arts@rmit.edu.au by 5:00pm on 3 March.
