Literature, Political Writings and their Influence on the Indian Freedom Struggle.

Literature and political writings have played a significant role in many social and political revolutions globally. Their influence on the Indian freedom struggle was no different. India’s pre-independence society was deeply influenced by the political writings and literature of the time and local Indian newspapers and pamphlets were often used by freedom fighters and political leaders to spread awareness and also as a propaganda tool against the British. Similarly, many great novelists have been instrumental in generating patriotism and social and political understanding among the masses. This was also a very crucial time for women and their evolving role in the Indian society, women writers wrote about strong and powerful women inspiring Indian women to join the freedom struggle. These writings not only helped people understand what they were going through as a nation, but also created a desire to know what Independence could mean. This panel discussion will focus on Indian literature and political writings and their importance in the Indian freedom struggle. The discussion will broadly cover: political writings, fiction: novel and poetry, women writers.
