About Ryan O'Neill

Ryan O’Neill was born in Glasgow in 1975, and lived in Africa, Europe and Asia before settling in Newcastle, Australia, with his wife and two daughters. His short fiction has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including Meanjin and Best Australian Stories. He is the author of the short story collection The Weight of a Human Heart and Their Brilliant Careers, which was shortlisted for the 2017 Miles Franklin Award.

About Carmen Leigh Keates

Carmen Leigh Keates won the 2015 Whitmore Press manuscript prize, leading to the publication of her debut poetry collection, the cinema-themed Meteorites, which was shortlisted for the 2017 QLD Literary Awards. Carmen is co-editor of Foam:e online poetry journal. She has a PhD in writing from UQ and works at QUT.

About Simon Groth

Simon Groth is a writer and editor whose books include Concentrate and Off The Record: 25 Years of Music Street Press. His first two novels were shortlisted in the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards and his short fiction has been published in Australia and the United States. Simon is director of if:book Australia, a leading developer of experimental publishing and exploration.

About Laura Elvery

Laura Elvery is a writer from Brisbane. She has been published in Griffith Review, The Big Issue Fiction Edition, Review of Australian Fiction and Award Winning Australian Writing. Laura's debut short story collection, "Trick of the Light", will be released by UQP in March.

About Grace Lucas-Pennington

Grace Lucas-Pennington is a young Aboriginal woman of Bundjalung/European descent. Growing up, she spent her time between Northern NSW and the Logan/Brisbane area. Grace is interested in publishing, politics, media, social justice, and the arts. She is passionate about First Nations writing, and promoting our stories. Grace has a position with the Black&write! Indigenous Writing and Editing Project as an Editor. Her poem An Arrival was highly commended in the 2017 Oodgeroo Noonuccal Poetry Prize.

About Adam Hadley

Adam Hadley is a Brisbane based crime writer, poet and MC who has performed at the Sydney Opera House, The Cloncurry Merry Muster and Rodeo, The Queensland Poetry Festival, and the Alice Springs Writers Festival, where a leather daddy nearly choked him to death with a fistful of Pavlova. He has sold stories to The Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary, Killeroo and Decay Magazine. In 2016 he was accepted into the Hardcopy manuscript development program run by the ACT Writers Centre to workshop his novel Grim Harvest, a psychopulp western set in North Queensland.

If Queensland Writers Centre cancels an event, we will try to reschedule it for a later date. If we cannot reschedule the event, or if you are unable to attend on the amended date, your payment will be refunded in full.
