Listening Post
Overview
“We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Exposed to the swirl and clatter of events, local, national and international, our unconscious minds weave patterns of meaning. Consciously, we might be compelled by events in Europe, the USA and Asia. We might wonder about our friends and neighbours closer to Australia. We might think about generations young and old making their way in the world, and about what we invest in the politicians and their policies for our country. We can certainly be curious about the way these and other matters operate within ourselves and among our social relationships.
Listening Posts are regular, annual meetings that take a snapshot of society at a particular moment in time. They explore the idea that a small group, when studying the behaviour of the wider social system that is society, will unconsciously express some of the characteristics of society and that these are discernible from the themes and patterns emerging from the discussion. Coordinated by OPUS in London, Listening Posts are held contemporaneously in many places around the world.
