About this event
The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music invites you to join us in acknowledging the beginning of National Reconciliation Week by attending Lighting the Wilin, with Boon Wurrung elder Parbinata Carolyn Briggs, who will be joined by Dean of Fine Arts and Music, Professor Marie Sierra, and Vice-Chancellor Duncan Maskell.
National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) celebrates the culture and history of First Australians, and emphasises the importance of privileging and amplifying First Nations’ voices as we call for reconciliation and justice. This year also marks 20 years since the founding of the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development.
After the ceremony, we invite you to join us in the Fiona and Sidney Myer Gallery for morning tea to mark the launch of Yoyi, an exhibition of video works and bark paintings by artists from the Tiwi Islands. We're excited to announce that this event will feature a special performance by senior artist Pedro Wonaeamirri.
