Event description
Join Steve Wilson for this fascinating insight into the distinctive reptile communities that inhabit our open forest environments.

About this event

Set in a subtropical mix of urban, rural and natural environment settings, the Sunshine Coast supports an extraordinarily rich biodiversity. This applies particularly to reptiles. And with an increasing population, our interactions with a variety of reptiles including snakes are likely to increase significantly.

This talk will focus mainly on the distinctive reptile communities that inhabit our open forest environments. It celebrates the biodiversity we have an obligation to protect, and examines some interesting aspects of the lifestyles of some of our fascinating open forest species. The talk will also cover our interactions with reptiles - how we can coexist with reptiles in our home environments, and common sense advice on dealing with dangerous snakes.

Steve Wilson is a Brisbane-based herpetologist and author of numerous books on reptiles including natural history, a children's book and definitive regional, state and Australian identification guides. He works as a fauna consultant and as an Information Officer with the Queensland Museum.

This event is proud to be associated with the World Environment Day Festival.

World Environment Day Festival, hosted by the Sunshine Coast Environment Council is a month long program of events and activities connecting communities and ecosystems. The theme for WED Fest is ecosystem restoration with a range of tree plantings, workshops, music, art and plenty of family friendly activities showcasing the diverse range of restoration projects throughout the region.
