Description

'Lifelines': Bringing India to life in the classroom

Dr Jane Dyson will introduce how her short documentary film, ‘Lifelines,' can bring a ‘real' India into the classroom. Based on nearly 15 years of working in a village in the Indian Himalayas, the film explores the hopes and challenges faced by a community in transition. New opportunities for education, work, and basic infrastructure are changing the aspirations of a generation of young people. ‘Lifelines' provides an intimate window onto one man’s struggles and dreams, both for himself and his community.

The film has been used successfully in schools around the world and is now accompanied by lesson plans tailored to the Victorian curriculum. Jane will discuss how these free resources can inspire students to think critically about everyday life and change in India.
