Event description

Description

To coincide with the Museums and Galleries Australia National Conference the library is welcoming delegates, and other interested people, to come on a libratry tour. The Alice Springs Public Library is a very busy and active part of the Alice Springs Community, we would love to welcome the MGA Conference delegates and show them what we do. In particular we would like to showcase our special collections, including the “Alice Springs Collection” which collects Central Australian materials and includes a large image collection, and talk about our innovative youth program projects which are creating unique Central Australian content.

These youth program projects include the YesterMorph project which linked digital content held in the library’s special collections to digital manipulation apps via which young people can add new layers tell their story. The results of this project were amazing and we would love to show you some of the artwork created.

Another exciting project is Indigemoji, which is aimed specifically at young Aboriginal people in Central Australia. Participants in the program are working towards developing a set of Indigenous emoji’s as a way of decolonising the internet during a time of rapid technological uptake in Central Australia. Funded by the NT Government and IndigiMob First Nations Media, the project is overseen by Arrernte linguists and language-speakers Joel Liddle Perrurle, Veronica Perrule Dobson AM and Kathleen Wallace Kemarre.

All welcome; light refreshments supplied.
