Description

During the writing of her latest novel The Crying Place, Lia Hills travelled regularly to the centre of Australia where she visited remote Aboriginal communities and began learning the Pitjantjatjara language. Lia will share images and stories of her journey writing The Crying Place, a haunting story of loss, place and the contradictions that lie at the heart of this nation.

Lia Hills is a novelist, poet and translator of the French language, whose work has been published around the world. Her debut young adult novel, The Beginner’s Guide to Living, was shortlisted for the Victorian, Queensland and Western Australian Premiers’ Literary Awards and translated into several languages. Her latest novel, The Crying Place, is set mostly in Arrernte and Pitjantjatjara country.
