About this Event

This is a free event designed for members of the public clinical mental health workforce in Victoria, (staff employed at Area Mental Health Services, Forensicare or mental health staff from RCH). For example, a social worker working in mental health at Austin Health. Staff from MHCSSs, ACCHOs, AOD or other partner organisations may also attend. Please note, if you do register for this event and it is not clear you are part of the intended audience, your registration will be confirmed two weeks prior to the event start date, or earlier.

Event description:

LGBTIQA+ is an acronym encompassing a wide variety of experiences and identities including: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual plus other sexualities and gender identities that fall outside of heteronormative ideas. The recent release of Australia's largest ever study on the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ young people aged 14-21, Writing Themselves 4, provides the basis to explore LGBTIQA+ young peoples identities, experiences and the impacts of discrimination. and service barriers.

The ZBGC has developed this training to help organisations and individual practitioners provide accessible and inclusive services for LGBTIQA+ young people and their families in Victoria.

The event will cover:

  • An introduction to bodies, gender and sexuality
  • Respectful communication and pronouns
  • Experiences and impacts of discrimination
  • Identifying systemic service barriers
  • LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice initiatives

Delivery Mode – 4 hour Virtual Training Session (5 hours total with break)

This course is delivered online through virtual classrooms where facilitators and participants can present course materials, engage and interact with one another, and work in groups together. Sessions are hosted via Zoom.

Zoe Belle Gender Collective (ZBGC) is a trans and gender diverse led advocacy organisation based in Victoria, Australia.

The Zoe Belle Gender Collective – formerly known as the Zoe Belle Gender Centre – was founded in 2007 and is named in honour of late transgender activist Zoe Belle.

ZBGC’s goal is to improve the health and wellbeing of trans and gender diverse (TGD) people by:

  • Providing education and awareness around TGD identities and experiences
  • Advocating for greater social equity for our community
  • Addressing discrimination
  • Tackling systemic barriers within health and human services
  • Improving TGD people’s ability to socially, legally and medically affirm gender identity
  • Working with and empowering TGD communities
