Support services for people with intellectual disability will have a unique opportunity to build their capacity to support LGBTIQ people with intellectual disability through learning from LGBTIQ presenters with intellectual disability, academics who work in disability and sexuality research, representatives of the bisexual+, trans and intersex communities, and disability support practitioners.

Inclusion Designlab is piloting this professional development workshop with the support of GALFA and a range of academic and LGBTIQ community partners. The content will be launched in this event and then, with participant feedback, reviewed and edited to produce a professional development guide.

Focus areas include:

• Stories and presentations from LGBTIQ people with intellectual disability (Rainbow Rights and Advocacy)
• Introduction to the bisexual+ community (Melbourne Bisexual Network)
• Intersex awareness training
• Supporting trans and gender diverse people (Transgender Victoria)
• Myths about the LGTBIQ community (MGA Counselling)
• Working with support organisations (Inclusion Melbourne and GLHV)
• Peer education with LGBTIQ people with intellectual disability (Deakin University)
• Models of inclusion, intersectionality and the disability rights movement
