Description

The women’s sport movement has gained momentum in recent times and Deakin University is proud to have been part of this movement as a sponsor of women’s sport and a supporter of women’s sport and exercise research.

We invite members of sporting community to join us for a seminar focused on sustaining the momentum in women’s sport. Members of Deakin’s Women in Sport and Exercise hub (WISE) will lead a discussion around ways to develop female leaders and to encourage male champions of change in sporting contexts.

It is through harnessing the potential of women as leaders and developing a culture of women’s leadership that sport will truly work towards levelling the playing field to ensure women and girls have the same opportunities as men and boys.

Associate Professor Pamm Phillips and Dr. Katie Rowe, from the Sport Management program, will host the evening, presenting relevant research perspectives and leading a Q&A with industry guests.

Guest presenters will each provide insights regarding how sport can continue to facilitate a culture that support’s women’s development and leadership in sport.

  • Nadine Cohen, CEO Confident Girls Foundation: Developing female leaders in sport.

  • Mark Anderson, CEO Swimming Australia: Male champions of change in sport.

This seminar is designed for community and elite sport stakeholders who have an interest in sustaining the women’s sport movement through women’s sport leadership. Deakin alumni, staff and residents of the City of Whitehorse are also welcome to attend.
