Event description

Description

In honour of International Volunteer Manager’s day the Cities of Armadale and Gosnells invite volunteer managers to attend: “Let’s Start the Conversation About Cultural Competence”

During this session the Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre will assist volunteer managers to gain an understanding of “Culture and Cultural Competency” and work more effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) clients.

Cultural competence is the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Cultural competence encompasses:

  • Being aware of one’s own world view;
  • Developing positive attitudes towards cultural difference;
  • Gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views;
  • Developing skills for communication and interaction across cultures.

The facilitator of this training has over twenty years experience working with CaLD clients and will facilitate open discussions and an opportunity to share skills, knowledge and issues that you may encounter.

Following the training session volunteer managers are welcome to stay for a light lunch in honour of International Volunteer Manager’s day. Please remember to book for lunch for catering purposes.
