Event description

Description

As educators we have all encountered students with disabilities in our teaching context. As the rate of disability diagnosis rapidly rises, it brings with it a range of professional challenges including managing challenging behaviours, dealing with the complexity of inclusion and collaborating with parents. Recent reports reveal concern over how students with disabilities are supported and parents are critical of a system that needs improvement. This workshop outlines the legal obligations faced by educators through the Disability Standards for Education and how to translate this into effective teaching practice through the negotiated education plan.

The following topics are included in the presentation:

  • The Individual Education Planning process

  • Case studies

  • The importance of collaborating with caregivers
