Course Outline/Aim

The New Aged Care Act 2024 introduces a stronger legal and ethical framework to ensure older people are supported with dignity, respect, and safety. Under this new legislative regime, CHSP providers and their staff are expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of their obligations—particularly in relation to informed consent, confidentiality, supported decision-making, and the prevention of abuse or conflicts of interest.

This training responds to these expectations and supports CHSP providers to align their practice with the principles enshrined in the Aged Care Act 2024, its supporting Rules, the Support at Home Manual V3, and the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, particularly Standards 1, 2, and 5.

By the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the legal obligations of CHSP staff under the New Aged Care Act 2024, including those related to rights, consent, and conduct
  • Apply privacy and confidentiality principles when engaging with older people and their supporters
  • Recognise potential conflicts of interest or abuse of position and understand their role in responding appropriately
  • Demonstrate compliance with the Code of Conduct for Aged Care and relevant safeguarding requirements
  • Align workplace practices with the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, particularly regarding governance, risk, and ethical care delivery
  • Document interactions and concerns in line with legislative and organisational protocols
