The tenancy laws that determine the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords has been amended in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Currently the ACT is in a ‘transitional period’ which is due to end on 30 April 2021 and change the rights of tenants residing in impacted households once again.
This training sessions aims to help community workers understand basic tenant rights and responsibilities, including how they have changed in light of COVID-19, and where tenants can get free legal advice and assistance if they have concerns.
This session will cover:
• An overview of the Residential Tenancy Act and the Standard Terms.
• Governments response to COVID-19 for tenants residing in an impacted households, including a breakdown of the current ‘Transitional Period.’
• Starting a tenancy – the basics.
• The rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords including lodging bond, maintenance and repairs, pets and modifications.
• Sub-tenancies
• Ending a tenancy and evictions
• How Legal Aid ACT’s Tenancy Advice Service can help.
This presentation will be delivered by a solicitor from the Legal Aid ACT Tenancy Advice Service (“TASACT”).
