Description

Kids love video games, and by learning to create their own helps them with practical and technology skills for the future. These skills involve soft skills, creativity, communication and problem solving - which are all highly desirable now and in the future.

Focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), the WA Video Game Design Workshops invites kids (age 8 to 13) to learn these important skills through the process of game design and building an original video game. UNLEASHING their POTENTIAL for learning and STEM.

Kids Learn:

  • Design Thinking Methodology
  • How to plan and design their game using Game Design Documentation (GDD)
  • Basic Programming
  • Object Orientation
  • Story telling, user experience and user interface
  • Adding Images and Sound
  • Saving and Exporting Files
  • Presentation skills
  • Enter into the WA Video Game Challenge.


Most importatly kids will meet like minded participants, creating friendships and go home with a game they can share with friends and family which they can enjoy long after the event is over.

Who is the WA Video Game Challenge Workshop for?

This is a 2 day workshop starting on 09:30 am and finishes at 4 pm. The workshop is designed for kids age 8 to 15 years with little or no experience in Game design, but it also caters for the more experienced designer since participants are guided through self paced exploration and skill level.

With adult and teen mentors each participant will gain valueable knowledge and create a game that they can enjoy and enter into the WA Video Game Challenge Championships. If you love playing games and think it would be great to create your own game, then this is a perfect place to start.

Most importatly kids will meet like minded participants, creating friendships and go home with a game they can share with friends and family and enjoy long after the event is over.

What's included:

BYO Lunch?

Due to food allergies we do not offer snacks, lunch or drinks. All children need to bring their own food and drink for each day to enjoy during breaks. We please ask to limit sugary foods and drinks as we found it impedes on their creativity and focus.

FAQ

What can/can't I bring to the event?

Please no valuables as we do not want anything to get lost. However, we require all particpants to bring a USB Flashdrive so they can save their game for use at home.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, this helps us with registration on the day and also if there is any name discrepencies.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds can be issued up to 7 days before event starts. However, admin fees may apply!
