Learning Support Program Community of Practice - Term 1

The Learning Support Programs (also known as Homework Clubs) Community of Practice (CoP) is a dedicated time for program staff and volunteers to come together for collaborative learning and expert knowledge sharing.

The CoP will facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practice, and useful resources between members. Guest speakers will also be invited to share their knowledge and insights.

The CoP will meet once per term for an hour. Each CoP session will explore a relevant theme, provide resources, and include capability building activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to share insights, discuss challenges, and offer solutions to common issues and challenges.

Term 1 topic: Activating Student Engagement

This CoP will provide space to learn from others in the sector, share knowledge and discuss challenges, all centred around how to use activities to engage students.

When students are actively engaged, they are more motivated, confident, and able to focus on their learning. Interactive activities create opportunities for students to participate, collaborate, and feel a genuine sense of belonging, making learning more meaningful and enjoyable.

Encouraging student engagement is empowering, it supports students to take ownership of their learning while strengthening social connection, emotional wellbeing, and resilience. When students feel safe, valued, and interested in what they are doing, they are more likely to attend consistently and remain engaged over time.
