Event description
This kickstart sewing class will take absolute beginners through the basics of machine sewing.

About this event

Our experienced instructors will teach you the basics of threading, adjusting and maintaining a sewing machine. We believe anyone can start sewing however we would recommend this workshop is suitable for ages 10+yrs.

You will learn how to:

  • Identify each part of the machine
  • Fill the bobbin and fit it into the sewing machine
  • Thread your machine and take up bobbin thread
  • Sewing straight stitching and vary stitch length
  • Change stitch selection and vary stitch width
  • Sew curves and corners
  • Complete a basic sewing project using these skills

Please note: this workshop is designed to be a beginner class to start you off with sewing. If you have attended previously, or already have basic sewing skills, we cannot cater for you in our Learn to Sew class. This has changed from what we previously offered. Please keep an eye on our Eventbrite and Facebook for upcoming intermediate project-based sewing workshops.

What's included:

We provide sewing machines and all materials, however if you would like to bring your own machine you are welcome (please make sure that you bring all the electric parts e.g. cord and foot control, and presser feet).

Tea and coffee facilities available.

What to bring:

As you start your sewing journey you will need to buy a sewing kit to support your new interest. A good starter kit of equipment should include these items:

  • Tape Measure | Fabric Scissors | Quick unpick | Fabric Pins

Parking and transport

We are located at 720 South Pine Rd, Everton Park. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes early to get set up.

We have some parking available on our premises. Please note, however, that in the case that there are many workshop participants and/or our Haberdashery thrift shop is open, parking may be limited. If no parks are available, we ask that you please park on the surrounding streets and NOT next door, as those parks are reserved for customers of the businesses on the premises.

Please keep in consideration that we have a steep driveway and most of our workshops occur upstairs.
