Sustainability and the Workforce:
New Ideas for Managing and Engaging Your People
The term ‘sustainability’ is one of the biggest buzzwords of the 21st century. Having originated in the environment movement, it has now found its way into other fields, including business. In this session, Mike Fazey will discuss the concept of sustainable human resource management as the next step in the evolution of HRM. He will also explore the notion of sustainable engagement and how this differs from traditional ideas about employee engagement. Recent research findings about the level of sustainable engagement in Australian workforces will be outlined, along with ideas about how organisations can measure, improve and sustain engagement levels.
Mike Fazey is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management at the University of Notre Dame. He also has 28 years’ experience as a human resources practitioner and strategist, and has written or co-written nine books on different aspects of HRM, including "Sustainability at Work: Readings, Cases and Policy" (Tilde Publishing, 2012).
