Leading Change in Local Government

Thursday 24th November 2016 & Tuesday 31st January 2017

About this course

The current challenges of transitioning change in local government require leaders, managers and supervisors to have a planned strategic approach to execute change effectively in both NSW and Victoria.  Local councils are experiencing amalgamations, restructures, changes to funding and legislation and increased community expectation and pressure.

Over the past 12 months time2talk has worked with over 30 NSW and Victorian Councils in the areas of Leadership, Change and Communication and we have had a number of requests to run a workshop specifically tailored to assisting local government leaders in embracing and leading change in the current climate and in the future.

We have designed a 2-part series to provide leaders with a planned approach to leading change and a toolkit to assist them to engage their stakeholders, get genuine buy in and sustain the necessary changes for their councils.

Participants will walk away from session 1 with a plan for change based on John Kotter’s Change Model. There will be an opportunity for a one to one coaching session to review and improve the plan. Session 2 will focus on gaining commitment for the plan with emphasis on engaging and influencing all stakeholders.

These sessions can be attended as stand alone sessions or as a series which includes the coaching component. This is an opportunity to network with peers from other councils to reflect on and plan for how to effectively lead local government and implement the changes required into the new year and beyond.

Session 1 – Leading Change: Planning & Executing Change

Session 2 – Leading Change: Influencing & Communicating for Change

Tuesday 31st January 2017

Influencing and engaging your stakeholders to invest in the change journey does not happen by chance.  To effectively gain buy in and inspire others to shift and embrace the desired changes requires a strategic approach.  You need to not only communicate what is changing but why and how. People need to be clear on the benefits and what can be achieved in the changed environment.  This workshop will assist with strategies and a plan to effectively communicate the change.
