Event description

Description

The underrepresentation of women in the workplace has become a huge topic of focus for the Australian government and organisations. Capgemini values diversity and inclusion and envisions a workforce where there are equal opportunities for all individuals regardless of gender identity, age, race, sexual orientation, ability or background.

We have curated an event to energise, engage and empower our community, in celebration of Women@Capgemini and will discuss how leadership is important in empowering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

The discussion will be hosted by Brigitta Norton, Canberra Lead of Idean (the Service Design Agency of Capgemini Invent), who is a strong advocate and promoter of diversity and inclusion initiatives at Capgemini. Twitter: @capgemini_aus, @algazel

We are excited to have these guest speakers share their insights (more panelists are being confirmed):

  • Ingrid McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer for ASTRO 3D
  • Peta Swarbrick, President of Canberra Women in Business
  • Asha Clementi, Co-founder of The Girls Leadership Network and Co-chair of Girls Run the World

Drinks and nibbles will be provided. Please contact us if you have any dietary or accessibility requirements.

When: Monday 26 August | 4.30pm - 6.30pm

Where: Capgemini Canberra | Level 8, 221 London Circuit, Canberra 2600

About the panellists

Ingrid McCarthy

Ingrid has had a varied career trajectory covering environmental management, small business ownership, science teaching and STEM outreach. She has combined all those skills and experiences to now manage operations for the ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions (ASTRO 3D) based at Mt Stromlo Observatory. ASTRO 3D has a strong Equity, Diversity and Inclusion program and Ingrid is a proud advocate for women and diversity in STEM. Twitter: @ARC_ASTRO3D, @ingidefygravity

Peta Swarbrick

Peta has over 25 years spent in business, starting a small family IT business and then moving into the property industry as a mother working part time here in Canberra. Peta has experience working in male dominated industries as well as running her own small business. After starting her own business in 2015 Peta joined Canberra Women in Business in 2016 and President in 2017. This role has given Peta platform to drive greater recognition of women's work through the CWB Annual Awards. These awards are over a decade old, and last year the CWB leadership decided to double the number of categories, expand the range of industries and activities recognised and celebrated, with a goal of increasing the participation of women in recognising their own value in their work, both in business and in the community. Peta has been part of the Canberra Women's March committee for the past two years, and is currently on the executive for the 2020 Women's March event. Peta is a strong supporter of women actively participating Awards programmes specifically tailored for women and the influence this can help achieve for women in traditionally male dominated fields like business. Peta is a proud feminist, activist and business community leader.

Asha Clementi

Asha Clementi is a student at the ANU with a passion for gender equality, diversity, and leadership. In 2017, she co-founded The Girls Leadership Network (TGLN), a leadership initiative for girls in Years 11/12 across the ACT. At 18, Asha attended the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York, representing the National Council of Women Australia. Last October, she co-chaired a program called Girls Run the World, empowering young women to connect with the diplomatic community, placing 22 young women in 11 embassies for a day.

Support Share the Dignity

Tying in with the Women@Capgemini initiative, we strongly believe no woman should ever not have access to sanitary items. To support this cause, we invite all attendees to kindly bring a sanitary item to add to the collection box that will be in the Canberra office for the month of August.

Share the Dignity is an Australian Women’s charity bringing dignity to homeless, at-risk and women experiencing domestic violence through distribution of sanitary items. We believe all women matter and all women deserve dignity and justice.”
