Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) is providing an exciting opportunity for Central Coast Community Service Providers and Community Members to be trained as Workshop Leaders in the internationally recognised  Better Health - Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP).  The CDSMP was developed by Stanford University and has an established record in improving a person's confidence and capacity to self-manage across a range of conditions.

On completion of the free 4 day training program you will be accredited as a "Better Health" Self-Management workshop leader which has shown improve the motivation and health of people living with any ongoing health condition such as arthritis, diabetes, lung and heart conditions or multiple sclerosis. 

As a community service provider the CDSMP "Better Health" program wil help you improve the motivation and health of people living with chronic illness and give you tools and strategies to help you to :

  • Improve client interactions about their personal motivation and health issues
  • Develop client centred goals and plans
  • Deliver the Better Health Self-Management workshops for organisations with a CDSMP Licence

As a community peer leader the CDSMP "Better Health" program you will help give back to your community as a volunteer for your local health district as a workshop leader.  This gives you the opportunity to co-facilitate "Better Health" self-management workshop groups across the central coast with another volunteer peer leader.

 Whether you are a community service provider or a community member the training will enable you to help people develop skills in self-management including:

  • how to manage chronic disease symptoms
  • the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity
  • how to communicate effectively with your doctor and healthcare team
  • how to manage difficult emotions
  • how to make daily tasks easier
  • how to set reachable goals
  • how to get more out of life

The workshop program is guaranteed to help people including their family members, friends or carers manage their health better.

Registration : 8.15am.  Start Time : 8.30am  Finish Time : 4.30pm

Participants must attend all four days to become accredited.

Can I update my registration information? 

You can update your details up to 14 days prior to the event 

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we will have a registration table at the event

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

This workshop will accredit individuals to run the CDSM program.  It is important that we maintain the name(s) of people who have been accredited.  Please update your ticket details or contact us prior to the event.

What is a "Better Health - CDSMP" program licence ?

The licence is an agreement with Stanford University as the "Better Health - CDSMP" program developers that the program will be used in its current format and copyright will not be breached.

Can I run a "Better Health" workshop under the CCLHD licence?

If you agree to work with the CCLHD "Better Health" team according to the licence requirements, it is possible to run a workshop under the CCLHD licence.  

If you run a "Better Health" workshop as a volunteer of CCLHD a National Criminal Record Check is requried and which the Better Health team would assist you with.
