Event description

LEADER as FACILITATOR - This workshop is specifically for LOCAL GOVERNMENT leaders

Local Councils need to engage with their communities, consult on projects and events and handle the questions, challenges and varied input from stakeholders, community groups and constituents. This workshop brings the skills of facilitation directly to Council Officers so they can lead and manage meetings of all sizes, no matter the topic or group, and no matter the situation, challenge or project.

If your Council has a community engagement strategy or has a policy for public consultation and participation, this workshop is a must, to help you run effective meetings and gatherings that both support the community's engagement and participation... and advance the Council's objectives and strategy.

The capability to facilitate is increasingly becoming one of this decade's critical skills for leadership.

These elegant, collaborative and engaging capabilities are no longer just for trainers, presenters or group and process practitioners.

Consultants, business analysts, project managers, middle level team and people leaders as well as those new to managing and leading a team are seeing and experiencing the benefits of being able to

- engage with a group or team,

- draw information from that group, and then

- help them collaborate to achieve an agreed outcome.

For experienced leaders, the landscape is also changing: leadership styles continue to evolve and shift. The days of telling people what to do is gone; greater engagement, influence and impact is how leaders are getting things done.

And add to these changes the diversity of teams today. Different ages, generations, cultures, languages, interests and motivations; finding ways of engaging, involving and working with them is totally up to the leader, not the team or the individual. Expecting people to 'be engaged' is a cop out. Leaders of today need to elicit the involvement and engagement of their team.

People on your team need to feel like they want to be engaged in the plan, strategy and vision. They will contribute their input and give discretional effort if the environment is right. Leaders can do so much to create the right environment and set up the processes that will help that team work together and collaborate.

The leader as facilitator needs to balance the imperatives of:

- achieving outcomes

- boosting engagement

- driving productivity

- encouraging contribution

Understanding how to be a Leader as Facilitator puts all of these imperatives to work in contemporary workplaces.

Overall it’s about the culture of leadership that you create and how you support your teams using your capability to influence organisational culture.

The program:

Builds on your existing skill sets

Fosters collaboration among individuals and across teams

Helps drive higher levels of individual and team performance

Helps achieve the team and organisational strategy

Boosts individual leadership capability - leadership is what you do when you're working with others. Facilitation is a capability to use with others, no matter the situation.

Who is it for?

While all managers and leaders in your organisation can benefit from the ability to lead as a facilitator, these groups in particular may benefit event more:

New to a leadership role and wanting to build their skillset quickly

New appointees to major projects and programs of work

Business Analysts who need to engage with stakeholders across diverse units

Project Managers who lead diverse teams and need to get alignment and performance swiftly

Community Engagement Leaders who run public meetings or community events and engage with users, customers, stakeholders and clients

People who need to lead diverse, remote or distributed teams across different sites or locations

It's meta !

Perhaps the most influential and valuable aspect about this program is that is delivered in a facilitation style.

That is, Lynne Cazaly brings her vast experience to bear in every session throughout the day.

The program is not about PowerPoint slides - it is conversational, engaging, instructional, practical and live.

The program is facilitated. All of it!

Plus, bring your questions, challenges and queries along to the session - we'll craft responses, processes and tools you'll be able to apply.
