Event description
Hear from SafeWork NSW and Greencap on the risk management of lead in residential, commercial and industrial properties

About this Event

Lead has been identified by The World Health Organisation (WHO) as 1 of 10 chemicals of major public health concern, requiring action by all countries to protect the health of workers, children and women of reproductive age. Lead exposure can have serious health consequences; it has the potential to enter the nervous system by mimicking calcium and cause serious short term and long-term injuries and illnesses.

This interactive session will provide information about the risk of lead in residential, commercial and industrial properties both from a construction and stabilised asset perspective, and will be valuable for anyone who owns or manages property, and those that are involved in construction or refurbishment works that may involve lead-based processes.

Julie Sullivan (Greencap) will address what makes lead a major public health concern and how this hazard can be identified, assessed for risk, and controlled. Abe Lau (SafeWork NSW) will provide insights on what they are observing in industry currently – including the good, the bad and what their expectations are in relation to mitigating this risk in accordance with WHS legislation.
