Le Bourgeois gentilhomme is a five-act Comedy-Ballet in prose written by Molière, represented for the first time on October 14, 1670, in front of the court of Louis XIV, at Chambord Castle by Molière's troupe.

All eras have had their own interpretations of this text. In 2019, here in Perth, we are happy to offer a contemporary one. It's not an adaptation because we have kept all the words of Molière. However, we are really playing with his words, taking them out of the past centuries. It's so well written that you can play with them infinitely.

The "Bourgeois" Mr Jourdain has a beautiful accent from the south of France - all that’s missing are the cicadas. Becoming a quality person is so important to Mr Jourdain that he ends up becoming quite crazy! A sweet madness that we would like to see sometimes in these "quality people"... His entourage misbehaves and makes him believe wonders: only his wife tries desperately to bring him back to earth. But she too will end up playing with him, because he is too blinded by his crazy hope of becoming someone! Becoming someone!

Mr Jourdain is surrounded by all sorts of people. The masters: an aging dancer, an unscrupulous musician, an egocentric master of arms, an even more egocentric philospher, a crazy clothes designer... A hysterical servant, two lackeys obeying like shadows, a wife who is despairing to have this strange man as a husband. A daughter, who wants only one thing: to marry who she wants. The seductive swindler: the good friend, the smart guy who knows how to say the right words to get what he wants. And then, of course, this high society woman, who stands straight, who is like an intruder in this very strange team. She’s the one that makes old Mr Jourdain dream: young, beautiful, elegant and a Marquise! Let's add now the suitor of Mr. Jourdain's daughter, and his companion, a devoted and devious friend! This great team will find an outlandish way to unite all lovers.

There is a fee paying car park next door and plenty of free car bays in the streets.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Feel free to contact with any questions: info@perthfrenchtheatre.com

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

We don't need the printed ticket, your name or ticket in your phone is enough.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

If you give your ticket to someone else, or buy for someone, please just bring the email received.

From what age can children attend this performance?

In France, kids start studiying Moliere around 11 years old. However, it really depends on the maturity of the child. No coarse language, no nudity, no violence. This play is free under 12yo. I recommand it from 10/11 years old.
