Event description

Description

The Laurelbank Masonic Centre was opened in 1963 and is being opened to the local community of Willoughby and the surrounding suburbs, for the first time, all are welcome to come and look inside the lodge room and the properties facilities and ask questions of Bretheran that meet here.

There has been little known of what Freemasonry is about, however, we are becoming more proactive to help people understand what it is, the easiest way of doing this is to open the doors to the lodge room, so people can come visit and get answers to their questions.

What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is the oldest and most widely known of the world's important fraternal organisations. Its high ethical and moral standards and values support in its claim to be an organisation of excellence which counts for something in today's society.

In today’s world, we offer men somewhere to go and meet with like-minded men, who want to better themselves and the local community.

Member numbers vary between lodges and districts, however, there are a lot of younger people joining.

What is a Lodge?
The basic membership group of Masons is called a Lodge. Commonly new members join Lodges to which their nominators belong, usually on the basis of established acquaintance.

Lodges are presided over by the Master who is usually elected to serve for a 12-month term. Most Lodge meetings are held monthly. At these meetings new members may be admitted or advanced to a higher rank or such other business conducted as the Master shall determine.

Each Lodge operates under a Warrant of Constitution from the Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
