Event description

Wednesday 29 August 2018 launch

Connor Court publishing invite you to the launch of the second edition of Robert Pascoe’s World History, vol.1, upstairs at Il Gambero restaurant, 166 Lygon Street, Carlton, on the evening of Wednesday 29 August at 6 for 6.30. You are welcome to stay for dinner downstairs at the conclusion of the launch.

The book will be launched by Professor Joseph Lo Bianco.

Joseph Lo Bianco is Professor of Language and Literacy Education in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne. As the author of Australia’s National Languages Policy in 1987, Lo Bianco is committed to preserving the world’s diversity of languages, which he sees as one strategy to help build world peace by improving our capacity for cross-cultural communication. Lo Bianco combines this global view of languages with very practical strategies for helping people deepen their performance in speaking and writing languages.

Now in its second edition, Robert Pascoe’s popular World History, vol. 1, People and Their Gods, is a lively and informative guide to the history of humankind from prehistoric times to 1770. Before the Enlightenment, most people believed their lives were governed by a God or gods. How this played out in the everyday lives of people, including women and slaves, is the theme of this book.

Useful for teaching upper secondary or undergraduate History, this book contains primary sources, points for discussion, and suggestions for further reading in scholarly publications and reliable websites. Illustrated and indexed.

The second edition includes Places to Visit, tourist destinations linked to the themes of the book.

The author is available for interview.

Robert Pascoe is Dean Laureate and a Professor of History at Victoria University, Melbourne. Email:, or phone +61 418 173 815.
